Best WMS for 50-250 employee 3PLs
Best WMS for 50-250 employee 3PLs (2026)
The short answer: at 50-250 employees the decision is less about feature lists and more about the model you will live with, how the system handles freight alongside the warehouse, and what exiting costs you. This page shortlists five options that show up in that buyer conversation (Extensiv, ShipHero, Logiwa, Tai and Turvo), says who each one suits, and links to a page per alternative.
How we checked
- Every fact about a vendor comes from its own public pages or from public reporting, linked on that vendor's page, as found on 30 September 2026.
- This page quotes no review scores.
- Where we could not verify something from a public page, this page says so instead of filling the gap.
- Each entry says who it suits, who should look elsewhere, and what to ask in the demo.
The shortlist
- Extensiv: the incumbent 3PL WMS, now owned by Descartes after the September 2026 acquisition (descartes.com, 30 September 2026). Suits operators who want the market leader and are comfortable with a large owner.
- ShipHero: an independent WMS that markets itself to 3PLs; on 30 September 2026 it was the only vendor we found with published content aimed at Extensiv customers after the deal (shiphero.com, 30 September 2026).
- Logiwa: a fulfillment-oriented WMS with strong published material on warehouse process, picking strategies and billing (logiwa.com, 30 September 2026).
- Tai: a freight broker TMS, now owned by Descartes (descartes.com, 30 September 2026); relevant when the brokerage leads and the warehouse follows.
- Turvo: a collaborative TMS that its own site pitches to freight brokers, 3PLs, shippers and carriers (turvo.com, 30 September 2026).
- Tai and Turvo are TMS products, included for operations whose freight side leads.
Who this shortlist is for
3PLs and warehouses in the 50-250 employee band, in the United States, running (or about to run) both storage and freight. If you are under 20 employees the calculus is simpler and cheaper; if you are enterprise-scale the enterprise vendors are a better fit than anything here.
Where we fit
We build a system you own: the code and the data are yours, on your own server, which we set up for you. The price is the build, quoted by scope, with no per-truck, per-dispatch or per-client fees; most builds are handed over in 14 days; your timeline is confirmed in writing after the onboarding call. After 3 months of free support, your IT team is trained, or you take 24/7 support for a fixed monthly fee, quoted with the build. We migrate you free with any Cargohold build: we review your data with you, agree what moves where, and move it into your new system at no cost. Migration time is agreed at onboarding and comes on top of the build. If your current vendor makes exporting hard, we work with their support or build a workaround. Choose a subscription product instead if you would rather subscribe than own. You can walk our system before deciding either way: request sandbox access to see what is live today.
This page is a shortlist, not a ranking: nobody pays to be on it, and none of the entries is scored. The pages behind each name carry the sources for that vendor.
Extensiv, ShipHero, Logiwa, Tai, Turvo and Descartes are trademarks of their owners. Cargohold and Microsive are not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any of them; the names are used only to identify their products. Cargohold builds systems that compete with them.
