ShipHero alternatives
ShipHero alternatives for 3PLs that also run trucking
ShipHero is an independent WMS that markets itself to 3PLs. After the Extensiv deal it published advice for Extensiv customers (get roadmap commitments in writing, ask whether pricing is locked) and offered itself as the independent option. It is a fair choice for warehouse-led 3PLs. The alternative conversation starts when trucking sits at the same table as the warehouse and you need one operation, not two systems.
What ShipHero's own pages say
- It calls itself an independent WMS built for 3PLs and compares itself against Extensiv on its own blog. (shiphero.com, 30 September 2026)
- After the Descartes acquisition it published advice for Extensiv customers: get roadmap commitments in writing, ask whether pricing is locked, and ask about support-team consolidation; it also raises whether Extensiv could be combined with Finale, which it describes as an existing Descartes product. It ends by offering ShipHero as the independent alternative. (shiphero.com, 30 September 2026)
Choose ShipHero if
- Your operation is warehouse-led and fulfillment-shaped, and trucking is occasional rather than daily.
- You want an independent vendor while the large-owner consolidation runs its course.
- You like a vendor that argues its case publicly: their comparison pages are easy to read and easy to check.
Look elsewhere if
- Trucking is not a side activity: ask each vendor to run dispatch, tracking and settlement live with your own examples.
- You would rather own the system than subscribe to it.
The question to put to every demo
Take one order that crosses from the warehouse to a truck and ask the vendor to follow it end to end, live. Count how many times the data is typed a second time and whether the identifier survives the crossing. That exercise shows more about trucking-fit than any feature matrix, whoever is presenting.
Where we fit
We build a system you own: the code and the data are yours, on your own server, which we set up for you. The price is the build, quoted by scope, with no per-truck, per-dispatch or per-client fees; most builds are handed over in 14 days; your timeline is confirmed in writing after the onboarding call. After 3 months of free support, your IT team is trained, or you take 24/7 support for a fixed monthly fee, quoted with the build. We migrate you free with any Cargohold build: we review your data with you, agree what moves where, and move it into your new system at no cost. Migration time is agreed at onboarding and comes on top of the build. If your current vendor makes exporting hard, we work with their support or build a workaround. Choose a subscription product instead if you would rather subscribe than own. You can walk our system before deciding either way: request sandbox access to see what is live today.
