Own your WMS: custom build vs SaaS

You own your WMS when the code and the data are yours, on your own server, which we set up for you, and you pay for a build instead of a subscription, with no per-truck, per-dispatch or per-client fees. A custom build gets you there as one project: most builds are handed over in 14 days; your timeline is confirmed in writing after the onboarding call. Buying a SaaS product is the better path when your process already fits standard software and you would rather not run a server.

What owning your software means

Ownership is three practical things. The code is yours, so no vendor can switch it off or reprice it. The data sits on your server, so you decide who reads it and for how long. The price is the build, quoted by scope, with no per-truck, per-dispatch or per-client fees stacked on top as you grow.

  • The code and the data are yours, on your own server, which we set up for you.
  • The build is priced by scope; after 3 months of free support, your IT team is trained, or you take 24/7 support for a fixed monthly fee, quoted with the build.
  • No per-truck, per-dispatch or per-client fees, and no per-seat charges that rise with headcount.
  • You choose when changes happen, instead of waiting on a vendor's release schedule.

What a custom build asks of you

Owning the system means someone looks after the server: your IT team, trained by us, or our 24/7 support for a fixed monthly fee, quoted with the build. We set the server up. Free migration: we review your data with you, agree what moves where, and move it into your new system at no cost. Migration time is agreed at onboarding and comes on top of the build. If your current vendor makes exporting hard, we work with their support or build a workaround.

The other cost is attention: someone who knows the operation has to say how the work actually runs. A build succeeds when that person is involved from the first scope conversation.

When buying is the right call

Buy when the standard product already matches your process. If your warehouse works the way the software expects, the fit is close enough, and you would rather pay a monthly subscription than run anything yourself, a SaaS product is the faster path. Buying also makes sense when you need the tool next week and your process is still changing shape.

How to decide

  1. Write down the three things your current software makes you do by hand. That list is what any new system has to fix.
  2. Ask what you would pay at 100 trucks or 200 clients under each pricing model, not just today.
  3. Ask who runs the system after it launches, and what happens when that person is on vacation.
  4. Decide whether owning your data on your own server is a requirement or a preference.
  5. See the system before you commit: request sandbox access to see what is live today.
